Kym Viet Company- a craft business for the disabled

(VOVworld) – The Kym Viet Company in Ha Dong district, Hanoi, is a virtual family for disabled people. To generate jobs for the disabled and help them integrate into the community, 40-year-old Le Viet Cuong, who is also physically disabled, together with some shareholders, established Kym Viet- a model social business in 2013. Cuong, who is Chairman of Disabled Association of Ha Dong district, had little difficulty persuading  some members of the Association to join his business. The company only had 3 workers in 2013. Now, it has 12 disabled employees whose ages range from 22 to 41. When they first came, they knew little about sewing and making souvenirs. But after being trained by the company’s partners, they now have the skills needed to make a complete product. Kym Viet products have received the Quacert certificate for products rated safe for children. The company recently received honorable mention at the 2015 Hanoi Gift Show. The company’s delicate handicrafts introduce Vietnamese traditional values to the domestic and foreign customers.

VOV visited Kym Viet’s factory in Mo Lao Ward, Ha Dong district, Hanoi.

Le Viet Cuong, Kym Viet’s director says “We are disabled people, but we don’t create products with disabilities. We have to live on our products. If customers buy our products out of pity, they will only buy once and we will be unemployed”.
