A: We continued to receive New Year greetings from our listeners around the world this week. We received a beautiful greeting card from Gary Edward Embry of the US and a reception repo rt for the program on September 21 on the frequency of 7315 khz. A: Ronald Scott of the US sent us a greeting card featuring polar bears and wrote: “I was looking through some old cards and found two of the most treasured in the collection- they were from VOV. They were such a warm and wonderful surprise at the time. Hope this comes as a welcome surprise also. I can’t receive your signal these days but I remember the great programming over these past years (15 years now). I hope you had a blessed holiday season.”

B: Thank you, Mr. Scott, for a nice surprise. It has been such a long time since we last heard from you. We’ll send you our frequency list and program schedule. Please tune in to VOV for more updates from Vietnam. Our program is now available on the web at vovworld.vn and via mobile apps as well.

A: On his New Year greeting card to VOV, Koji Nakayma of Japan wrote: “Thank you for the radio program that you always provide us with. I enjoyed listening to your radio program this year, and have been pleased that I got a lot of information about your country. Your radio programs always included informative and interesting topics. I would like to keep listening to your radio next year and will send feedback and reports to you. “

B: Thank you, Mr. Nakayama, for your beautiful feedback on our broadcasts. We wish you a New Year of luck and happiness and fun with VOV broadcasts. Your comments on our programs are a source of encouragement for us to continue our shortwave broadcasts.

A: This week, we received two letters from Mr. Anand Mohan Bain of India and his reception reports for the programs on May 15th and 18th on the frequency of 12020. In his letters, Mr. Bain asked about Vietnam’s best football player.

B: Well, in different periods, we have had different excellent football players. Most recently, 5 Vietnamese football stars were picked by FOX Sports Asia football editor Gabriel Tan.

A: Arguably the best player in Vietnam at the moment, Nguyen Van Quyet from Hanoi is also the likeliest to earn a move abroad having already been linked to Thai League 1 champions Buriam United.

B:  The 26-year-old is capable of playing in any attacking position but does his best work in a free role behind the striker, where he deals plenty of damage by finding pockets of space to either assist his strikers or finish it off on his own. Having established himself as a genuine star of the region, there is no better time for Van Quyet to embark on a new challenge, according to FOX Sports Asia.

A: At the opposite end of the spectrum to Van Quyet is his Ha Noi team-mate Nguyen Quang Hai, who is still only 20 and is starting what promises to be a successful career.

B: While he may be far less established, Quang Hai has already displayed plenty of potential as an attacker brimming with pace, skill and an ability to put the ball into the back of the net when he gets a chance.

A: Just as Van Quyet took over from Le Cong Vinh as the darling of Vietnam football, Nguyen Cong Phuong of the Hoang Anh Gia Lai club looks set to assume that mantle in the next decade or so. Possessing the potential to be one of the region’s best players, Phuong already has overseas experience from his spell at J2 League side Mito Hollyhock.

B: And, though still only 22, Phuong has shown enough to suggest he would succeed in any of Southeast Asia’s top leagues, including Thailand.

A: It is a real testament to the work they do at youth level that Vu Van Thanh is the second of three Hoang Anh Gia Lai players featured here. While full-backs are not always the preferred option for a prized foreign player slot, Van Thanh’s versatility means he is equally adept being deployed as a left winger not unlike to Thailand’s Theerathon Bunmathan and Peerapat Notchaiya.

B: The 21-year-old is part of this new wave of talent that has fuelled Vietnam’s challenge to Thailand as ASEAN’s number one team, and looks set to play a crucial role in the future prospects of the national team.

A: The most-talked about footballer in Vietnam at the moment given the uncertainty over his future but also his undoubted talent, is Luong Xuan Truong, also from Hoang Anh Gia Lai, who is about to end his stint in the K League Classic with Gangwon.

B: Playing in one of Asia’s top leagues is beneficial only if you are indeed playing, and game time at the Chuncheon Songam Stadium is something that has been rare for the classy playmaker. For the 22-year-old to take the next step in his career, he must now be regularly featured as an integral player and there will not be a shortage of suitors should he become available.

A: Here’s an email from Christopher Rumbaugh of the US. He wrote: “It is so nice to hear you well in the American state of Oregon. We can listen to your wonderful English program on 7315 khz at 00:00 hours UTC. Let me tell you about our family. We have 2 children - a girl and a boy - both adopted from Da Nang, Vietnam. They are Ngan, 15 and Minh, 10. They are so proud of their Vietnamese roots and always excited to learn more about Vietnam. “Chuc Mung Nam Moi ” (Happy New Year) for the Year of the Dog that is coming soon.”

B:  Thank you, Mr. Rumbaugh, for tuning in to VOV. Please say hello to your children and visit VOV English section if ever you come to Vietnam. We wish you all the best for the New Year 2018.

A: This week, Mr. Rumbaugh and Richard Nowak of the US complained about audio difficulties on the frequency of 7315. We’ll forward their technical comments to our technicians. We look forward to your regular comments on our programs.

B: We’d like to acknowledge emails and letters from Eddy Setiawan of Indonesia, Rabi Sankar Bosu, Deekay Dimple, Kumar Paul, Sri Adalat Das, Shivendu Paul, and members of the New Horizon Radio Listeners’ Club of India, Johnelle Roseanna Lakeland of the UK, Maksim Mikhaylichenko of Russia, Sumoto Huang and Eddy Prabowo of Indonesia, Richard Lemke of Canada, Muneer KP of the UAE, and Mizanur Raman of Bangladesh.
