On April 18, 1992, the Government issued Decision No.130 on the establishment of Dien Bien Phu Town in Lai Chau Province.
In 2003 Dien Bien Phu town was recognized as a Grade III Urban Area and officially became Dien Bien Phu City. It is now the capital of Dien Bien Province.
Tourists still cannot fail to be moved by the heroic, historical evidence of the Dien Bien Phu campaign which “resounded throughout the five continents and was world-shaking”.

To date, the average income of people in the city has reached 64 million VND per person per year.
Many large projects have been completed and put into use.
Dien Bien Province Stadium. Military parades commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory will take place on May 7, 2024.
Upgraded transport infrastructure has contributed to shortening travel time from Dien Bien Phu to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other localities throughout Vietnam, opening up opportunities in tourism development and investment.
The government and people of local ethnic groups are united and determined to reach the criteria to become a Grade II Urban Area by 2025 and soon become one of the outstanding tourism and service centers of the Northwest region.
