Politburo member and Vietnam Fatherland Front President Nguyen Thien Nhan praised contributions of Women’s Union at all levels to the Front. He said he hopes that the Vietnam Women’s Union in the new term will continue to work closely with the Front.

Mr. Nhan said: “It’s good idea that the Vietnam Women’s Union has set out the norms for its branches at the grassroots levels based on which the union will contribute more to the Front’s programs. The Congress has set a target of supporting the establishment of 300 cooperatives run by women in the next 5 years. This is a new point of the new tenure.”

At the closing ceremony, the Congress adopted the revised charter of the Vietnam Women’s Union, which will have 171 members, 161 of them elected. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union, was re-elected for the new tenure. She told a press briefing after the Congress that the Union will continue to work for the rights of women and promote emulation movements among women.
