According to the report, funding for this period was 430 million USD, reducing the number of poor households from 22% in 2005 to 7.8% in 2013. However, poverty reduction remained unstable while the development gap particularly in the northern and central highlands regions still remained. National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said reducing poverty was a firm policy of the party and state: “Reports on poverty reduction results should be carefully studied because they will have a great impact on society. The taskforce overseeing the implementation of poverty reduction policies should report to the National Assembly on the role of state management. The responsibility of ministries and localities should be heightened.”
