2014 Asia-Pacific Disability Forum Conference

(VOVworld) – The 2nd meeting on international conventions on the rights of people with disabilities and UN Development Goals after 2015 took place on Friday in Hanoi within the framework of the 2014 Asia-Pacific Disability Forum Conference.

Ha Dinh Bon, Director of the Legal Department under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, stressed the need to ratify the conventions on the rights of people with disabilities which is Vietnam’s commitment to protecting and promoting of development to help the disabled. This is also a legal basis that shows Vietnam’s viewpoint of non- discrimination towards disabled people, and respect human rights: "The convention affirms the entitlement of persons with disabilities to all human rights, as stipulated in international law. It also shows the responsibility and tasks of the Government and community to protect the rights of the disabled. It brings into full play the rights of disabled people rights  in line with the international convention and make it suitable in Vietnam’s situation". 

Joakim Parker, Chief Representative of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vietnam, said USAID would continue to support Vietnamese disabled people by providing vocational training and generating more jobs for disabled children.
