(VOVworld) – June 21st marks the 88th anniversary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day. Over the last 88 years, Vietnamese revolutionary journalists have grown significantly and continuously contributed to national development. On this occasion, former General Director of the Voice of Vietnam, Vu Van Hien, published an article on the press role in Vietnam’s revolution. The article highlighted that the Party considers journalists as frontline soldiers on the cultural and ideological front, and the press is the effective tool of the Party providing the people with the most accurate, and current information. Closely linked with the Party, Vietnam’s revolutionary press fulfills its mission and social function in ideologically guiding readers and listeners.

Various activities are underway nationwide to mark the 88th anniversary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day. The 7th National Press Awards 2012 will open in Hanoi on June 21 with more than 1,500 entries. Ha Minh Hue is Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association: “The entries intensively mentioned topics in all issues. Journalists expressed and highlighted issues of public concern. Entries to this year’s award promoted the implementation of the Political Bureau’s direction 03, the resolution of the 4th plenum of the Party Central Committee. They also reflected measures to tackle businesses’ economic difficulties and social and cultural issues.”

Earlier, the Steering Committee for the Southwestern region held a meeting with central and local media agencies in Can Tho City. Dien Bien province held a seminar on Vietnam’s revolutionary press.
