(VOVworld) – A get-together of overseas Vietnamese was held at VOV’s office Thursday on the occasion of Tet-the Lunar New Year.

Nguyen Phu Binh, Chairman of the overseas Vietnamese Liaison Association, addressed the event, dubbed ‘Spring of reunion’:

News agencies like VOV play an important role in disseminating the policies of the government and activities of public organizations, especially to Vietnamese living abroad. The contributions of overseas Vietnamese are essential because they are the bridge between Vietnam and their host countries. Vietnam needs their contributions which represent their support for the country’s policies, the national economy, science, and technology.”

Vu Hai, VOV’s Deputy Director General, briefed the attendees on VOV’s developments in all four genres of media, which have helped overseas Vietnamese around the world keep informed about Vietnam and contribute to the nation. He said:

Over the past few years, VOV has made a lot of improvements. We now have 6 radio channels, and recently the VOV traffic channel has been allowed to transform itself into a national traffic channel. Meanwhile, the Overseas Service Channel - VOV5 – has become the national overseas broadcasting channel. VOV also has created a TV Channel and an online newspaper. In addition to On top of programs for overseas Vietnamese on VOV5, VOV is also running programs for Vietnamese people abroad at vov.vn and on VOV1. In the future, we will have a TV channel covering the National Assembly. VOV now has 9 overseas bureaus in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, France, the US, Egypt, Russia, and China. Another bureau may soon be opened in the Czech Republic.

A 2014 Homeland Spring program to welcome overseas Vietnamese returning home for Tet was organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs with the participation of about 2,000 people. President Truong Tan Sang accompanied OV representatives to offere incense and release carps at Tran Quoc Pagoda and visited Bat Trang ceramic village, and a flower market.
