According to the statement, only 16 of the 88 detainees at Bagram prison had solid evidence of offence. The statement also quoted reports of National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief Rahmatullah Nabil in Thursday meeting with judicial officials, which said up to 45 inmates at Bagram prison are innocent as there was no evidence as well as accusations of their participation in rebel activities.
Earlier, Afghan President Hamid Karzai decided to release hundreds of detainees from prisons across the nation, including 72 from Bagram prison.
