(VOVworld) – The 35^th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) opened in Vientiane, Laos on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Laos’ Parliamentary Speaker and AIPA 35 President Pany Yathotou.

The Vietnamese delegation is lead by National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung. In her speech, Yathotou said the AIPA General Assembly was a large and important forum for the ASEAN parliaments. AIPA 35 is taking place in the context of regional and global complications, which offer both opportunities and challenges. The theme of AIPA 35 is Strengthening Parliamentary Cooperation in ASEAN Community Building. Yathotou stressed the systemized cooperation between AIPA and ASEAN, which made the establishment of an ASEAN Community with the slogan “One vision, one identity, one community” more meaningful. In his welcoming speech, Laos’ Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong said that the Laotian government supported AIPA 35’s agenda and that Laos hoped to receive the support of member countries and partners to ensure the successful implementation of ASEAN cooperative mechanisms with the common goal of peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
