Al-Qaeda admits killing 2 French journalists in Mali

(VOVworld) – Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) has claimed responsibility for the killing of two French journalists in Mali. AQIM, a branch of the Al-Qaeda global terrorist network in northern Africa, said the killings were in retaliation for France’s military operations in Mali.

In response to the claim, a spokesman of the French President said France would use all its resources to ensure that the crimes would be punished.

Radio France International journalists Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon were abducted in front of the home of a member of the Tuareg rebels' National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad on Saturday. The French soldiers found their bodies 12 km east of Kidal the same day. The incident occurred a few days after 4 French hostages were released and returned home after 3 years under Al-Qaeda detention in Nigeria.
