AMM 50: Partners value ASEAN’s role and cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - The ASEAN Foreign Ministers Plus One Meetings with its partners Canada, the Republic of Korea and New Zealand took place in Manila, the Philippines on Sunday as part of the 50th ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meeting.

The meetings discussed ways to boost bilateral ties, the implementation of ASEAN's 3-pillar Action Plan and the realization of ASEAN Community Vision 2025. Partner countries pledged to support ASEAN’s central role in the regional architecture and further cooperation with ASEAN in the near future. Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said that the meetings created an opportunity to discuss further bilateral cooperation. ASEAN and Canada shared links and interests which can bring about cooperation opportunities. Canada wants to cooperate with ASEAN in trade, climate change response, and anti-terrorism.

At their meetings, ASEAN Foreign Ministers and their counterparts from the Republic of Korea and New Zealand agreed on ASEAN's important role in the region and the need to future cooperation.
