AMMD 6 on anti-drug opens in Hanoi

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has reaffirmed its determination of drug prevention and control at the 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters (AMMD), which opened in Hanoi on Thursday.

Minister of Public Security Sen. Lieut. Gen. To Lam told the those in attendence that the Vietnamese government has prioritized this work and will enhance cooperation with other countries in its anti-drug effort. Minister Lam said: “With the spirit of diligence and responsibility, Vietnam will join the fight against drugs for the benefit of the region. It will invest in resources and step up communication  in order to raise public awareness about the drug threat. Vietnam has fully and effectively implemented a number of agreements and commitments, towards the building and protection of a strong and united ASEAN Community against the threat of drugs.”

Minister Lam said rapid changes in the region and the world have caused ASEAN to strengthen its unity and solidarity, take advantage of new technology for development, maintain its central role in relations with partners, and generate new momentum for cooperation and dialogues on the prevention and fight against drugs..

Participants will discuss the implementation of the ASEAN Action Plan on protecting the community from drugs until 2017-2025 and the ASEAN Cooperation Plan on preventing drug production and transportation in the Golden Triangle until 2019.
