April 30th victory—great assistance from the former Soviet Union
(VOVworld)- Vietnam’s Minister of Defence said Vietnam received wholehearted and effective assistance from international friends, especially from the Soviet Union and other socialist countries, in its struggle for national independence and freedom.

At a meeting yesterday with veterans of the former Soviet Union visiting Vietnam, General Phung Quang Thanh said Vietnam has continued to nurture its strategic partnership with Russia and its comprehensive partnership with Ukraine and Belarus. Thanh said: “We give priority to military cooperation with countries like Russia, Belarus and Ukraine where we send our officers and military experts to be trained. Under the government’s policy of building more advanced Vietnam people’s army, we are focusing on training our naval, air and air-defense forces.”
The veterans are visiting Vietnam on the 38th anniversary of its liberation of the south and reunification.
