The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, featuring art performances and stories of soldiers. Tran Thi Thong was the only survivor of a US bomb attack that killed her 13 teammates who were young volunteers aged from 18 to 22. Thong said: “At that time we had a dream that when America stopped bombing, we could return home to take care of our family. We dreamed of building a family and nurturing happiness in a peaceful world. However, those dreams didn’t come true. I feel very sad when I think about my teammates. They died in the war and cannot witness today’s peace”.

Lieutenant General Doan Sinh Huong recalled his memory of Truong Bon: “I passed through Truong Bon twice. I met volunteer youth force members who were responsible for filling the bomb craters along the roads and guiding trucks across the danger zone. They still sang and laughed with each other under bombardment”.
