ASEAN, UN boost sea law training
(VOVWORLD) - The Indonesian government and the United Nations (UN) co-hosted the first training conference on the Law of the Sea in Jakarta, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The sixth congress of the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association (VWVA) opened on Wednesday in Hanoi.
The 3-day event implements the action plan for the ASEAN-UN Joint Declaration on Comprehensive Partnership for 2016-2020 to build capacity via legal and technical training on the Law of the Sea, particularly the 1982 UNCLOS. Participants discussed the UNCLOS, its relation to the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, the rights and obligations of maritime security and safety, the marine environment and maritime biodiversity, and dispute settlement.
