In a joint statement on Friday in Bangkok, Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono called on China to end its increasingly aggressive behaviours in the East Sea.

The ministers expressed serious concern over credible reports of disruptive activities in relation to long-standing oil and gas projects in the East Sea. They reiterated their commitment to international law and its importance in maintaining peace and stability in the maritime domain.

The annual Australia - United States Ministerial Consultations (AUSMIN) takes place from Saturday to Monday. The East Sea issue and China’s behaviors are high on the agenda.
