Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation opens in Beijing

(VOVWORLD) - Thirty seven heads of state and 5,000 delegates from around the world gathered in Beijing, China, on Friday for the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Themed “Belt and Road Cooperation, Shaping a Brighter Shared Future,” the forum is China’s most important diplomatic event of the year. It includes a roundtable session for state leaders, and a conference for ministers, business leaders, and experts.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Chinese President Xi Jinping called on all parties to continue promoting the “Belt and Road” Initiative towards sustainable, high-quality development to improve people’s living standards.

Vietnam welcomes initiatives and efforts to push ahead with international integration and regional connectivity, and supports China’s goals for the forum. It is eager to cooperate with China and other countries in building and implementing programs and projects that promote peace, development and prosperity based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, observance of the UN Charter and international law, and respect for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of all countries.
