A big explosion was also reported at Maelbeek metro station near the EU headquarters, prompting the closure of all metro stations in Brussels. Belgian immediately raised the national security alert level to the highest level.
Security has been tightened across Europe to prevent similar attacks.
In response to reporters' question about Vietnam's reaction to the attacks, spokesperson for Vietnam's Foreign Ministry Le Hai Binh said Vietnam condemns the deadly terrorist attacks in Brussels, which killed and wounded many people. Vietnam shares the losses of the Belgian government and the families of the victims and believes that the measures being deployed by the Belgian government will bring the culprits to justice.
Mr. Binh said upon hearing the news of the attacks, Vietnam's Foreign Ministry has instructed the Vietnamese embassy in Belgium to cooperate with local relevant agencies to find out if there is any Vietnamese victim in the attacks. No Vietnamese casualty has been reported so far. The Vietnamese embassy is working out plans to resolve any emergency requests by Vietnamese nationals.
