In 1999, the United Nations announced international recognition of Vesak Day which falls on the 15th of the 4th lunar month. Buddha’s birthday is being widely celebrated across Vietnam. Pagodas and temples in Ho Chi Minh city have been elaborately decorated with lights and flowers. People have been offering incense and floating lanterns to show their respect for Buddha.

“I came to the pagoda to pray for my work, health, happiness, and peace. I wish everyone a peaceful Vesak Day,” said Buddhist follower Truong Minh Son.

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Thua Thien-Hue province organized a Buddha parade to pray for peace and prosperity.
