Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen begins an official visit to Vietnam

(VOVworld) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is in Hanoi for his first official visit to Vietnam since his re-appointment as Prime Minister in September this year.

During talks with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Thursday, both government leaders agreed to deepen comprehensive friendship and cooperation by maintaining visits by both sides’ ministerial and provincial leaders to strengthen mutual understanding while boosting cooperation in all areas towards a 5 billion dollars of two-way trade turnover in 2015. They agreed to encourage and protection the interests of investors from both countries for mutual benefit. Vietnam and Cambodia will strengthen cooperation in national security and defense, and combating terrorism, transnational crime, smuggling and drug and human trafficking. Both sides reiterated the principle of not allowing any hostile force to use one country’s territory to do harm another’s security and intervene in its internal affairs.

The two Prime Ministers praised efforts in border demarcation and border marker planting for a borderline of peace, friendship, stability and development. They will continue offering favorable and fair treatment to overseas Vietnamese and Cambodian.

On the East Sea issue, the two sides voiced their common stance on the ASEAN six-point principles on the settlement of East Sea disputes and peaceful settlement of East Sea disputes in accordance with international law including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) toward formulating a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) between ASEAN and China.

After the talks, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of 10 cooperation documents, including a treaty on extradition and goods transit.

At a meeting with the Cambodian PM the same day, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung spoke highly of Hun Sen’s visit to Vietnam in his new term as a positive step to strengthen the traditional friendship and cooperation and pledged close ties with the Cambodian legislature.
