Canada continues trade trip to Beijing despite arrest of Huawei executive

(VOVWORLD) - A Canadian business delegation led by British Columbia’s Forestry Minister Doug Donaldson will arrive in China on Tuesday less than a week after Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou was arrested while changing flights in Vancouver.

British Columbia authorities had announced the cancellation of the trade trip to China and Donaldson said he wanted to return home after meetings in Japan, but the rest of the delegation still wanted to go to China.

The Chinese government has warned Canada that if Meng is not released, there will be grave consequences. But on Tuesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry refused to repeat the warning. China’s Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Lu Kang said Huawei, China's largest private company, has done nothing wrong.
