Central Vietnam seeks to recover from typhoon Nari

(VOVworld)Typhoon Nari which struck Vietnam Tuesday, is concentrating its damage in the province of Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue, and in Da Nang city. 9 people are dead or missing and 22 others were injured.

Thousands of houses were reported badly damaged and electricity is cut in large areas. Local authorities are mobilizing thousands of soldiers, public security officials, and volunteers to support recovery efforts. By Tuesday night, people who had been evacuated to safe places in Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city had begun returning to their homes to clean up the mess and resume their lives. Military units in nearby cities and provinces have sent troops to help the local people rebuild their houses and clear the roads. The region’s Electricity Corporation is hastening to restore electrical service. Meanwhile, in Quang Nam province, the hardest hit area, efforts are underway to prevent floods and landslides, people living in low l areas are being evacuated to higher ground, and local search and rescue teams are on high alert around the clock to minimize loss of life.
