President Ton Duc Thang’s 130th birth anniversary commemorated

(VOVWORLD) - The 130th birthday of President Ton Duc Thang was marked at a ceremony in his home village in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on Sunday.

Addressing the event, President Tran Dai Quang recalled the life and revolutionary career of President Ton, known affectionately as Uncle Ton.

“The life and career of Uncle Ton is an example of patriotism, loyalty, dedication to the national revolution, the great national unity, and the international unity of the proletariat. Former Prime Minister Pham Van Dong said President Ton Duc Thang bequeathed people the valuable heritage of southern magnanimity, resilience, creativity, vanguardism of the working class, patriotism, communism, and humanism,” President Quang said.

President Quang called for a thorough collecting of facts, documents, and exhibits related to the childhood and career of President Ton Duc Thang.

In Ho Chi Minh City, a delegation of the city’ Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front offered incense and floral tribute to the President Ton Duc Thang at his museum. 

The museum is holding a display on the childhood of President Ton Duc Thang, with around 100 exhibits showing the situation in An Giang province and the southern region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
