China appoints Carrie Lam HKSAR chief executive

(VOVworld) - Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has signed a State Council decree to appoint Carrie Lam the fifth-term chief executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China). The appointment made Lam the first Hong Kong female chief executive ever since Hong Kong officially returned to China in 1997.

Lam secured an overwhelm victory in the election late March against former Finance Secretary John Tsang and retired judge Woo Kwok-hing.

She will take office on July 1st.
