The Japanese Coast Guard (JCG) claimed that the ships entered the area at around 10am local time and moved in a southwest direction. Japan ordered the ships to move out of Japan’s territorial waters and continues to monitor them closely.

The Senkaku islands are 400km west off Japan’s coast. They are controlled by Japan but also claimed by China, which often sends ships or aircraft to the area.
