But Brennan noted that the overwhelming majority of officers involved in the program at the CIA carried out their responsibilities faithfully and in accordance with the legal and policy guidance they were provided.

Although Brennan admitted the use of secret torture, he insisted that the secret program had provided “useful intelligence.” He took the case of the information gained from detainees subjected to enhanced interrogation helping locate the hide-out of al Qaeda Osama Bin Laden.

Brennan rejected accusations by the Senate Intelligence Committee that the CIA misled the White House and the public about its interrogation program and acted more brutally and pervasively than it acknowledged.

He affirmed that the CIA is capturing and interrogating suspects and has conducted much reform to prevent similar incidents.

Brennan’s remarks were immediately criticized by the Senate Intelligence Committee.
