Juan highly condemned the attack and ordered National Police chief General Jorge Nieto to investigate. The ELN, which is engaged in long-running peace talks with the government, said on Twitter that they call for the stop of unfounded and reckless accusations, adding that this is the way people are trying to tear up the peace process. The ELN affirmed that they never conduct attacks affecting citizens.
