Inés María Chapman, president of the National Institute of Water Resources, said the first plant located in Santiago de Cuba, in the East of Cuba, is to be completed. The plant to be put into operation late this year is expected to produce 50 liters of fresh water per second which can provide enough water for 40,000 people. Ms. Chapman said this initiative is part of a program to provide fresh water for the areas which are difficult to access freshwater systems.
