(VOVworld) - The 13th expanded Culture, Sports, and Tourism Festival of north-western ethnic groups opens on Saturday night in Lao Cai province.

8 northwestern provinces including Lao Cai, Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Ha Giang have engaged in the program to promote their cultural values and potentials for culture, sports, and tourism development.
Nguyen Van Binh, Head of the Northwestern Region Steering Committee has asked the local administration to develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector to improve people’s life, reduce poverty, and maintain political security. “The Culture, Sports, and Tourism Festival will enhance solidarity and friendship among ethnic groups, inspire their national pride, encourage their determination and willingness to build a strong and civilized nation, and promote Vietnam’s image to the world.”
The Festival will run until October 3 with various fantastic activities including demonstration of ethnic lifestyle and rituals and performance of ethnic costumes and folk music.
