Following the success of the 1st Day of Pho in Ho Chi Minh City last year, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper and Japanese instant noodle producer Acecook are taking the event to Hanoi.

This year’s event, themed “Honoring Vietnamese Flavor – Journey to the Old Pho,” features an exhibition on the dish’s 100-year history, its spread throughout Vietnam and the world, and its modern variations. An awards ceremony will be held to recognize ideas for the organization of “Day of Pho” and outstanding entries in the Memories of Pho writing competition. Famous Pho shops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will attend the festival. Visitors enjoy many Pho variations from the north to the south and watch chefs cooking Pho.

Visitor Pham Nhu Dung said: “There are fried Pho, Pho with water, and wrap and roll Pho. I like to eat Pho for breakfast. It’s a typical Vietnamese food. When Vietnamese people go abroad, we often want to eat Pho to see the differences with the rice noodle in Vietnam. Many foreign visitors eat Pho.”

Pho is sold everywhere in Vietnam and many countries where Vietnamese people live. Japan observes April 4th as Day of Vietnamese Pho. Global magazines have introduced Pho as a nutritious and delicious dish.  The organizers hope that the second Pho Day will help to boost the dish to the same level of fame as other national dishes, such as Italian pizza, Japanese sushi, and German sausage.
