Deputy FM hails India –ASEAN maritime cooperation

(VOVWORLD) -Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung has praised maritime connectivity between India and ASEAN countries, saying that this long-standing link has created favorable conditions for the exchange of culture, language, art, religion, trade, and tourism.

Dung made the remark on Thursday at the 10th Delhi Dialogue, in New Delhi, India. The annual event, themed ‘Strengthening India-ASEAN Maritime Co-operation’, is an important forum at which policy makers, researchers, and business leaders, converge to brainstorm on issues pertaining to ASEAN-India relations.  Mr. Dung urged the two sides to strengthen economy-trade cooperation to soon finalize the ASEAN-India Maritime Transport Agreement.

Participants said maintaining navigation and aviation security is a prerequisite for all sides to develop their maritime economy. They upheld the principle of dealing with disputes through peaceful measures in line with international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and strengthening cooperation and collaboration to combat people and drug trafficking, and piracy.
