Kim Ki-Jong slashed Mark Lippert with a paring knife Thursday in an assault that left the US envoy needing 80 stitches on his face. Kim, 55, was immediately arrested and charged with attempted murder. RoK’s Yonhap News Agency quoted Kim as saying that he had stabbed Lippert to protest the massive US-RoK joint army exercise currently underway. Kim was convicted in 2011 of hurling a stone at Japan’s ambassador to the RoK and received a suspended jail term.
