In order to popularize the Law on the Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms, the Front will strengthen its message on prohibited smoking behavior, regulations on no-smoking areas, and the people’s rights and obligations in preventing harm from tobacco. Ha Thi Lien, Vice Chairwoman of the Front, says: "The program on preventing tobacco harm has three main aims including encouraging state policies on healthcare, building community models, and supervising the implementation and honoring of good models."
Vietnam has nearly 16 million cigarette smokers and is among the 15 countries with the highest number of smokers. Every year in Vietnam there are tens of thousands of deaths caused by secondhand smoke, and the government has spent millions of USD on tackling smoking.
