(VOVworld) – Ensuring people’s safety and stepping up communications are two ways to reduce the damage caused by flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai on Wednesday told a video conference in Hanoi that provinces should map areas with a high risk of flash floods and landslides and create response plans for residents. He said the most important goal of disaster prevention and control is to protect human life before, during, and after the calamity.
Hai underlined measures to be taken immediately: “we should raise public awareness of disaster dangers and response measures. Forms and modes of communication for people in mountain areas should be different from those for lowlanders. We should use their language or deliver leaflets to residents. Localities should create detailed plans and communication activities should be regularly conducted.
