(VOVworld) - The economy in Greece has performed "substantially better" than forecast in its massive bailout deal, the EU said on Thursday, a day ahead of a key meeting of eurozone finance ministers to discuss the rescue.

European Commission spokeswoman Annika Breidthardt said at a briefing in Brussels that the result was indeed substantively better than the bailout program’s fiscal target of a primary deficit of  no less than 0.25 percent of GDP for 2015. Breidthardt added that talks to review Greece’s first reform period continues in Athens to make final decision to provide the 5-year credit to Greece as soon as possible.

Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras rejected any plan that asks Athens to take the austerity measures and called on creditors to cut down on debts for the country.
