(VOVworld) – The European Union Monday launched the Emergency Social Safety Net (ESSN) program to issue monthly electronic cash to a million refugees in Turkey, as part of a deal under which Ankara will restrict the numbers trying to enter Europe.

ESSN will give refugees pre-paid cards for food, housing, schooling, and medical expenses in Turkey. Christos Stylianides, UN Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, said that this program was the largest humanitarian project the EU has ever supported. He said the ESSN is a perfect proof of the EU’s commitment to deal with the current refugee crisis.
