(VOVworld) – Chairman of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger warned European countries to be cautious ahead of upcoming elections and avoid promoting policies that support or oppose the new US government.

At the closing ceremony of the conference on Sunday, Ischinger urged European countries to reduce the risk of election splits over requests for increased defense spending.

The Munich Security Conference, one of the world’s most important conferences on foreign policy and security, took place last week. Delegates discussed future trans-Atlantic relations, NATO and the European Union, the crisis in Ukraine, and the Syrian civil war.
