Far-right candidate elected Brazil’s president

(VOVWORLD) - Right-wing candidate Jair Bolsonaro was elected Brazil’s president on Monday, beating leftist opponent Fernando Haddad, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal declared after 94% of the votes were counted.

Bolsonaro said in a victory speech broadcast live on Facebook that he is committed to improving and protecting the constitution, democracy, and freedom of Brazil.

Jair Bolsonaro, 63, a former army captain, is the first far-right candidate to win a Brazilian presidential election in 30 years.
