First APEC Senior Officials Meeting opens in Nha Trang

(VOVworld) - The first APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM1) opened in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, on Thursday attended by delegates from 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum.

The meeting is the start of hundreds of events to be hosted by Vietnam during APEC Year 2017. It is also the last event of more than 60 meetings and dialogues of APEC sub-committees and technical groups that have taken place over the past 10 days in Nha Trang.

During the 2-day meeting, delegates will discuss implementation of joint action plans to expand business and investment opportunities and improve capacity so that the people and businesses of Vietnam and Asia-Pacific can make optimal use of the opportunities brought by globalization.

SOM1 will discuss the APEC 2017 priorities proposed by Vietnam. These include strengthening regional economic links, increasing trade and investment opportunities, and helping small and medium-sized enterprises and micro businesses participate in global trade, food security, and sustainable agricultural development, and response to climate change.
