Thao Giang, Director of the Vietnam Folk Music Development Center, which is hosting the festival, said: “This year’s festival includes folk artists from all over Vietnam, not just from Hanoi. There are performances every weekend in August of chầu văn (a ritual music combining trance singing and dancing), xẩm (ancient folk singing performed by blind beggars), ca trù (chamber music), and southern folk songs”.

The month-long festival celebrates Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and Vietnam Music Day (September 3).
