Foreign delegations pay tribute to former Party leader Do Muoi

(VOVWORLD) - A number of foreign delegations on Friday came to pay last respect to former Party General Secretary Do Muoi.

They included a delegation of the Lao Party and State led by Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, a delegation of Cambodia led by Ms Men Sam An, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Relations of the Senate, National Assembly and Inspection, Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization, a delegation of the Communist Party of Cuba led by Ms Olga lidia Tapia Iglesia, Secretary of the Cuban Party Central Committee.

On Friday, Ambassadors, diplomats and representatives of international organizations paid tribute to the former Party leader. Writing in the funeral guest book, US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink noted during former Party leader Do Muoi’s tenure, Vietnam and the US addressed problems in history in an open manner and promoted the reconciliation and normalization of bilateral ties in 1995. Thanks to legacy of the former Party leader, the governments and peoples of the two countries have developed partnership and friendship.

UNICEF Representative in Vietnam Youssouf Ould Abdel-Jelil cited Mr. Do Muoi’s contributions to Vietnam’s sustainable development with care and development opportunities for children. Chief Representative of the IMF in Vietnam Jonathan Dunn underlined the former Party chief’s contributions to Vietnam’s economic reforms and the improvement of Vietnamese people’s life.

Russia’s General Consul in Ho Chi Minh City Aleksey V. Popov, Malaysia’s General Consul Sofian A.Karim, and Japan’s General Consul Ông Junichi Kawaue came to pay last respect to the former Party leader.

The memorial service for former Party leader Do Muoi will be held at 9 am on Sunday at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi and the Reunification Hall in Ho Chi Minh City. The burial service will be held the same day at 1 pm in Mr. Do Muoi’s native village in Dong My commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi.
