“Vietnam and Cambodia agreed on activities in the border areas of both countries, especially places where demarcation has not completed. Disturbing activities in the border areas went against bilateral agreements. Vietnamese and Cambodian functional agencies have coordinated activities to control the situation and not let border issues affect bilateral relations. Both sides agreed to speed up negotiation and the installation of border markers in line with previous commitments”.

Regarding a large scale live-drill of Chinese naval force from July 22-31 in the east and southeastern waters of Hainan island covering Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago, Mr. Binh said: “It’s a gross violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty which goes against the common awareness of both countries’ leaders, hampering the development of bilateral relationship, threatening maritime security and navigation freedom. Vietnam opposes and strictly requests China to respect Vietnam’s sovereignty, behave responsibly, immediately stop and will not repeat such activities to worsen the situation.”

He said Vietnam welcomed the US and Cuba’s positive moves following their announcement to normalize relations last December. The opening of their embassies is a practical move benefiting their people and contributing to global peace, stability, and cooperation.

The spokesman also welcomes recent UN resolution endorsing a nuclear deal between Iran and P5+1 on July 14. He said Vietnam supports efficient enforcement of this agreement for peace, stability, and cooperation in the world.
