Foreign reporters write about Vietnamese fishermen and China’s actions in the East Sea

(VOVworld) – Qatar’s Aljazeera this week posted an article by Roberto Tofani after a field trip to Vietnam’s central region. Tofani wrote that relations between Vietnam and China worsened following China’s placement of oilrig Haiyang 981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. He said that Chinese vessels prevented Vietnamese fishermen from fishing in the East Sea although it is currently the fishing season there. He quoted Erik Franckx, an expert on the law of the sea as saying that regional countries need to cooperate on the East Sea to prevent China’s unreasonable unilateral actions. The article concluded by saying that the simple wish of Vietnamese fishermen is to continue their daily work in peace.
