(VOVWORLD) - Vu Mao, former chief of the National Assembly Office, passed away at 1.39am on Saturday in his home in Hanoi due to an advanced age and a long illness, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly Standing Committee, the NA’s Committee of External Affairs, the NA Office, and his family has sadly announced in a statement.
Born on December 19, 1939 in Hanoi, Mr. Vu Mao began joining the revolution in 1950 and became a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1962.
He was a member of the Party Central Committee of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th tenure, member of the NA Standing Committee of the 9th, 10th, and 11th tenure, and NA deputy of the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th tenure. He also served as chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee of External Affairs and Office, NA Office and the State Council, and NA Committee of Youth, Adolescents and Children. He was also first secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
He was awarded a 55-year Party membership badge, first class Independence Order, third class Order for Resistance against the US, and the first class Order of Merit. He was also conferred honorable distinctions by Cambodia, Laos, and Japan.
His funeral service will be held at a high level by the National Assembly Standing Committee.
His funeral service will take place from 7am to 10.45am on June 3 at the National Funeral House, 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi.
He will be buried later the same day in Thien Duc cemetery, Phu Tho province.
