A similar event was hosted by Vietnam’s permanent mission to the UN, the World Trade Organisation and other international organisations in Geneva, on Tuesday.

Representatives of Ethiopia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, and Djibouti paid respects to the late leader.

Ambassador Georgi Pannytov, head of the Bulgarian mission to the UN, said that former PM Khai was an architect of Vietnam’s international economic integration and a strategist of Vietnam’s economic prosperity.

The Vietnamese Embassy in the US received representatives of the US administration, the US Congress, the diplomatic corps of several countries in Washington, Vietnamese representative agencies in the US, and the overseas Vietnamese community, who came to pay homage to the former Prime Minister. Mr. Khai’s visit to the US in June 2005 was the first visit to the US by a senior Vietnamese leader, marking the 10th anniversary of bilateral ties and 20 years of Vietnam’s Doi Moi (Renewal) cause.
