He said the visit was a follow-up to the July 25 accord reached in Paris between the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Libyan National Army (LNA).  The objective is the stabilization of Libya in the interest of Libyans but also in the interest of neighboring countries, including France, Le Drian said at a joint news conference with Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Taher Siala. Le Drian said a united Libya with functioning institutions is the antidote to the terrorist threat in the long term. Libya plunged into chaos after a 2011 uprising toppled and killed longtime leader Moammar Gadhafi. The GNA was formed and established in the capital city of Tripoli to try to restore security in Lybia.
