Germany seeks to salvage Iran's nuclear deal

(VOVWORLD) -German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Saturday paid an official visit to Iraq amid rising tensions between the US and Iran. 

Speaking as soon as he arrived in Baghdad, Foreign Minister Maas said there was a clear danger of miscalculation, misunderstandings, and provocations resulting in unforeseen consequences in the Middle East region. According to the German Foreign Minister, the latest escalation requires Germany to intervene to reduce tensions.

A statement by the Iraqi presidency office said that President Barham Salih highlighted Germany's active role in efforts to achieve peace and ease tensions in the region so that its people can enjoy a better and prosperous future.
