At the government meeting for March on Monday, PM Phuc underlined that Vietnam’s GDP grew 7.38% in the first quarter, the highest of the past decade.

He quoted the NIKKEI as reporting that Vietnam's Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) hit 51.6 points in March, the second highest across Southeast Asia.

"We need to review production and business performances to devise growth scenarios for 2018. The National Assembly set a GDP growth target of between 6.5% and 6.7%, so we must achieve at least 6.7%," the PM noted.

Mr Phuc highlighted a number of important events Vietnam carried out during March, including signing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in Chile, and hosting of the sixth Greater Mekong Subregion Summit (GMS-6) and the 10th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area Summit (CLV-10).
