Government leaders call urgent measures to cope with typhoon Sarika

(VOVworld) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has delivered an official telegram urging for efforts to overcome aftermaths of torrential rain and flood in the central region and cope with typhoon Sarika. The telegram said typhoon Sarika may hit Vietnam’s mainland in the next 2 days and the storm Haima in the Pacific Ocean is forecast to strengthen and affect the East Sea. The Prime Minister called on provinces from Nghe An to Thua Thien Hue to do everything possible to find the missing and provide food to affected people, while repairing health care, education, transport, irrigation, and electricity facilities to resume stable lives and production.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung chaired a teleconference on Sunday with the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the National Committee for Search and Rescue, and authorities from 22 localities from the northern port city of Hai Phong to the central province of Quang Binh on preparations for the typhoon.

Deputy PM Dung requested municipal and provincial people’s committees to keep a close watch on the movement of the storm and informed vehicles operating at sea to stay away from the area of danger and take shelter.

He asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting to regularly update the typhoon’s movement to support proactive preparations.
